Purcell Marian's volleyball season has hit a rough patch, with the Cavaliers falling to 5-9 overall after a straight-sets loss to Colerain on Monday, Sept. 21 (25-13, 25-6, 25-9).

The East Walnut Hills school entered the season with three returning players who earned Division IV all-city honorable mention in 2025: Lauryn Brown, Kyra Granville-Britten and Josslyn Kidd. But wins have been hard to come by. Purcell Marian stood at 0-2 in the Miami Valley Conference as of mid-September, according to MaxPreps, placing sixth in the conference.

Four games loom over the next two weeks. The Cavaliers host MVCA on Thursday, Sept. 24, then welcome Bethel-Tate on Tuesday, Sept. 29. They travel to Norwood on Thursday, Oct. 1, and visit Cincinnati Country Day on Saturday, Oct. 3.

The Oct. 3 matchup pits two area schools against each other. Cincinnati Country Day competes in the MVC alongside Purcell Marian, making the result a potential tiebreaker in the conference standings.

GGCL rankings shuffle

Across the regional volleyball landscape, the Girls Greater Catholic League provided the biggest movement in the Cincinnati Enquirer's Sept. 23 power rankings. Enquirer reporter Brendan Connelly wrote that the GGCL "is getting chaotic as the league schedule unfolds."

Seton (14-0, 5-0 GGCL) held the No. 1 spot. Senior Charley Moeddel ranks in the league's top five in kills, blocks and aces. McNicholas (13-1) climbed one spot to No. 2, powered by Savanna Stacey, who recently surpassed 1,000 career kills. Ursuline (8-4) dropped two spots to No. 7 after a three-match losing streak.

Purcell Marian does not compete in the GGCL. The Cavaliers' next chance to move up the MVC standings comes Oct. 1 at Norwood.
