The Ohio River Trail will close Monday, Sept. 28, near the East End's Little Miami Wastewater Treatment Plant. Crews need one day to connect a new storm sewer line to a manhole in the trail.

The Metropolitan Sewer District of Greater Cincinnati (MSD) announced the closure in a Sept. 24 press release. The trail is scheduled to reopen Tuesday, Sept. 29, with a short gravel detour path routing users around the construction zone. The detour could stay in place for up to a month, depending on weather and field conditions.

The work is part of a larger project. MSD is installing new storm sewers on the west side of the plant, where an anaerobic digestion facility is under construction. The sewer line must tie into a manhole located in the trail, which is why the detour is necessary.

The affected stretch sits near the intersection of Wilmer and Kellogg avenues, according to MSD records. Walkers and cyclists from Mount Lookout and Hyde Park regularly use this section of the trail.

The Ohio River Trail stretches 22 miles, per a prior MSD notice about the same location. It is part of the planned CROWN (Cincinnati Riding or Walking Network), a 34-mile loop that will eventually connect the Little Miami Scenic Trail, Mill Creek Greenway and Wasson Way, according to Tri-State Trails.

MSD has not announced a completion date for the broader digester construction project. The gravel detour is expected to come out by late October.
