Stone Bowl, the Korean and ramen restaurant at 3355 Madison Road next to MadTree Brewing, closed permanently Aug. 17, after 12 years serving Oakley.

Owners Young Park and Misook Gwon announced the closure Aug. 16 in a social media post, saying a job relocation that has kept their family living apart for four years forced the decision. The couple is moving out of state to reunite with family.

"We did our best to make it work, but now the time has come for us to close this chapter, reunite our family, and begin the next one together," Park and Gwon wrote in the post, according to WKRC.

Stone Bowl opened in 2014 with a menu built around bibimbap, ramen, noodles, sushi and bento boxes. Park and Gwon raised their two children while running the restaurant and said they developed close relationships with regulars over the years. They credited customer loyalty with helping Stone Bowl survive the COVID-19 pandemic, when the restaurant's future was uncertain.

The closure marks another loss on a Madison Road dining corridor that has thinned in recent months. The Pub Rookwood closed July 30 after 25 years at Rookwood Commons, as we reported at the time. Red Feather Kitchen, an 11-year fixture on Madison Avenue in Oakley, closed in December 2024, and Oakley Wines shut down in July 2025 after seven years. Rooted Juicery & Kitchen also permanently closed its Oakley location after flood damage in July.

Twelve years is a long run for any independent restaurant.

Park and Gwon did not say which state they are relocating to. In their farewell post, they thanked everyone "who walked through our doors, shared a meal with us, brought your family and friends, offered a kind word, gave us advice, laughed with us, worried about us, and sometimes simply treated our restaurant as a second home."

No replacement tenant has been announced for the space.
