Violent crime in Mount Lookout has more than doubled in 2026 even as the neighborhood's overall count fell nearly 10%, according to the Cincinnati Police Department's latest neighborhood report.
The CPD report, produced by the department's Crime Analysis and Problem Solving unit and exported Monday, Oct. 5, counted five violent Part 1 offenses year-to-date in 2026. Part 1 crimes are the FBI's classification for serious offenses. That five-incident total is up from two in 2025, a 150% increase and nearly four times the three-year average of about one violent incident per year.
Total Part 1 crime in the neighborhood stood at 38 incidents through early October, down from 42 over the same period last year. The 9.5% decline was driven by a sharp drop in property crime, which fell 17.5%, from 40 incidents to 33.
What's behind the numbers
The five violent incidents reported so far in 2026 break down this way: two robberies, two rapes and one aggravated assault. In 2025, the neighborhood recorded one rape and one strangulation over the same stretch. No homicides have been reported in either year.
On the property side, burglaries fell from seven to three. Thefts from autos dropped from 16 to 12, and auto thefts were cut nearly in half, from 11 to six. One category bucked the trend: personal and other thefts doubled, rising from six to 12.
Recent 28-day period
The most recent 28-day reporting window, Sept. 6 through Oct. 3, logged four Part 1 crimes, double the two recorded in the prior 28-day period.
Two of those incidents occurred minutes apart on Linwood Avenue in the early morning hours of Sept. 11. An auto theft was reported at about 2:52 a.m. in the 3200 block, and a robbery was reported at about 3 a.m. in the 3100 block. The CPD report does not indicate whether the two incidents are connected.
The period also included a burglary reported at 6:36 p.m. Sept. 7 in the 1100 block of Herschel Avenue and a theft reported at 8:24 p.m. Sept. 18 in the 800 block of Ellison Avenue.
