A 35-year-old Cincinnati man is jailed without bond after allegedly firing a gun into a woman's home on Grandin Avenue on two separate occasions.
Ryan Murphy faces charges including terrorism, felonious assault, improperly discharging a firearm into a habitation, discharging a firearm near prohibited premises, inducing panic and vandalism, according to court records first reported by WKRC on Thursday, Oct. 1. Grandin Avenue runs through Hyde Park and Columbia-Tusculum on Cincinnati's east side.
Court records do not specify the exact dates of the two Grandin Avenue shootings.
Murphy is also accused of firing shots into the Willis Avenue building where he lives earlier in September, according to court documents. That incident forced a road closure and the evacuation of a nearby building. Willis Avenue sits in Mount Lookout, near Linwood and Observatory avenues, according to Hoodline.
The two streets place the alleged shootings squarely in the Hyde Park and Mount Lookout corridor, within blocks of homes, schools and businesses.
Prosecutors allege Murphy also damaged Greater Cincinnati Health Services and Hafner and Sons Landscaping on Sept. 7. Court records indicate a gun was used in both incidents but do not detail the extent of the damage.
Terrorism under ORC 2909.24 is charged one degree higher than the most serious underlying offense. Felonious assault is normally a second-degree felony carrying two to eight years in prison per count. The terrorism elevation could raise that to a first-degree felony.
Murphy's defense attorney told the court Murphy has a traumatic brain injury, WKRC reported. The attorney was not named in available court records. No response from Murphy or his attorney beyond the traumatic brain injury disclosure appears in public records as of publication.
Murphy has a prior criminal-damaging conviction from a March 2021 incident in which he threw a chainsaw through an apartment window, Hoodline reported, citing court filings. That case resulted in a 180-day suspended jail sentence and one year of probation.
Murphy remains jailed without bond. A hearing is expected the week of Oct. 5, though no specific date has been confirmed.
