Hyde Park's violent crime count has nearly tripled compared to the same period in 2025, according to the latest Cincinnati Police Department (CPD) neighborhood crime report.

The 28-day report covering Aug. 30 through Sept. 26 logged 14 Part 1 violent crimes year-to-date, up 180% from five in the same period of 2025. The three-year average for the same stretch is fewer than five.

The report, produced by CPD's Crime Analysis and Problem Solving unit and updated Monday, Sept. 28, recorded eight total Part 1 crimes in the 28-day window. The prior period had three.

Two of those eight were violent offenses: a rape reported at the 2400 block of Madison Road on Wednesday, Sept. 23, at 9:51 a.m., and an aggravated assault at the 2400 block of Grandin Road on Monday, Aug. 31, at 2:37 a.m.

The remaining six were property crimes. An auto theft was reported at the 3500 block of Potomac Avenue on Sept. 23 at 8:09 p.m.

A theft from a vehicle was reported at the 2600 block of Madison Road on Sept. 6 at 8:30 a.m. Four personal or other thefts were recorded at locations on Edwards Road, Erie Avenue and Michigan Avenue between Sept. 11 and Sept. 21.

Year-to-date, the violent crime breakdown includes three rapes, up from two in 2025; three robberies, up from zero; and four aggravated assaults, up from two. The report also lists four strangulations, up from one. CPD notes that strangulation became a separate offense category under the Ohio Revised Code in April 2023 and is a subcategory of aggravated assault.

Despite the violent crime spike, overall Part 1 crime in Hyde Park is still well below last year's pace. The neighborhood recorded 81 total incidents year-to-date, compared to 163 in 2025, a 50% decrease. Property crime fell 58%, from 158 incidents to 67.

The prior CPD report, covering Aug. 16 through Sept. 12, had shown 11 violent crimes year-to-date and five total offenses in its 28-day window.

CPD District 2 has not publicly commented on the year-to-date increase. CPD labels all data in the report as preliminary and subject to further analysis.
