Hyde Park's violent crime count has risen to nine incidents so far in 2026, a 125% increase over the same period last year, even as the neighborhood's total crime rate has fallen nearly 50%.

The latest Cincinnati Police Department District 2 neighborhood report, published Aug. 2 and updated Aug. 3, adds a strangulation in the 2400 block of Madison Road on July 26 at 2:37 p.m. to the year's tally. That incident was not reflected in CPD's previous report, which formed the basis of our July 30 coverage.

Madison Road corridor: two violent crimes in one block

Both violent incidents in the most recent 28-day period (July 5 through Aug. 1) occurred in the same block: the 2400 block of Madison Road. A rape was reported there on July 6 at 12:27 p.m., followed by the July 26 strangulation three weeks later.

Year-to-date, Hyde Park has logged three strangulations, three robberies, two aggravated assaults and one rape. In 2025, the neighborhood recorded just four total violent crimes through the same date. Strangulations became a separate offense category under Ohio law in April 2023, meaning the three-year average baseline does not include them before 2024.

Property crime plummets

The violent uptick stands against a dramatic property crime decline. Hyde Park has recorded 59 property crimes in 2026, down 54.62% from 130 in 2025.

Every category fell. Theft from auto dropped 40%, auto theft fell nearly 46%, burglary declined 58% and personal/other theft plunged almost 69%.

Total Part 1 crime stands at 68 incidents year-to-date, down 49.25% from 134 in 2025 and 36% below the three-year average.

28-day breakdown by block

Beyond the two violent offenses, the July 5–Aug. 1 period saw seven property crimes across the neighborhood:

  • Two burglaries: 2300 block of Vista Place (July 8) and 2400 block of Madison Road (July 18)
  • One auto theft: 2500 block of Ritchie Avenue (July 11)
  • Two thefts from auto: 3600 block of Michigan Avenue (July 10) and 2600 block of Madison Road (July 13)
  • Two personal/other thefts: 3500 block of Michigan Avenue (July 7) and 3500 block of Potomac Avenue (July 10)

CPD's data is preliminary and subject to revision. At the Hyde Park Neighborhood Council's June meeting, District 2 Officer Alexander urged residents to register Ring cameras at connectcincinnati.org and to call the non-emergency line at (513) 765-1212 to report suspicious activity.
