Hyde Park residents are half as likely to be victims of property crime as they were a year ago, but violent crime in the neighborhood has doubled.
The Cincinnati Police Department's latest neighborhood report, produced Monday, July 27, shows 67 total Part 1 crimes in Hyde Park year-to-date, down 47% from 127 in the same period of 2025. Property crime drove the decline, falling from 123 incidents to 59, a 52% drop.
The violent crime picture is different. Eight Part 1 violent incidents have been recorded through July 27, compared to four in the same stretch last year. The three-year average for the period is 3.67.
CPD District 2 was not available for comment on the year-to-date violent crime figures.
What's driving the increase
Three robberies account for much of the jump. Hyde Park recorded zero robberies through this point in 2025. Two strangulation cases, both new to the year-over-year comparison, also contributed. Aggravated assaults held steady at two, and reported rapes dropped from two to one.
CPD's report notes that strangulation became a separate category under the Ohio Revised Code in April 2023, so the three-year average for that offense reflects only 2024 and 2025 data, not a full baseline.
At the Hyde Park Neighborhood Council's June 9 meeting, CPD District 2 Officer Alexander reported that arrests had been made in two violent cases: a robbery at Withrow and a strangulation tied to domestic violence. "The police also made an arrest in a strangulation in a domestic violence case," Alexander told the council at that meeting. He also noted an aggravated assault between police and a motorist during a traffic stop.
Property crime: across-the-board drops
Every property category fell year-over-year. Personal and other theft saw the steepest decline, dropping from 51 incidents to 17. Theft from autos fell from 39 to 24, auto theft from 22 to 13, and burglary from 11 to 5.
The most recent 28 days
In the period from June 28 through July 25, Hyde Park recorded just eight total Part 1 crimes, down from 14 in the prior 28-day window. Seven were property crimes: two burglaries on the 2300 block of Vista Place and the 2400 block of Madison Road, two thefts from autos on the 3600 block of Michigan Avenue and the 2600 block of Madison Road, two personal thefts on the 3500 block of Michigan Avenue and the 3500 block of Potomac Avenue, and one auto theft on the 2500 block of Ritchie Avenue. One rape was reported July 6 on the 2400 block of Madison Road.

CPD District 2 typically presents 28-day crime statistics at the monthly meeting. At the June 9 meeting, Officer Alexander urged residents to keep Ring cameras charged, calling them "a huge help to the police when things happen."
