Hyde Park Square retailers will bring deals to the sidewalks Sept. 12 in an event supporting businesses still recovering from summer flooding.

The all-day event, called "Flood the Square with Love," marks the return of the Hyde Park Square Sidewalk Sale. The Hyde Park Square website describes it as a chance to shop local and spend a Saturday in the Square with family and friends.

The Hyde Park Neighborhood Council's Events Committee is coordinating the sale with the Hyde Park Square Business Association, according to the HPNC's August meeting packet. The packet described the event as an effort to support local businesses affected by recent flooding.

Heavy rain on July 17 and again on July 21 forced multiple Hyde Park businesses to close temporarily. Neko Sushi owner Yeon Kim told WCPO the July 17 storm was the fifth time her restaurant had flooded since 2018. Sewage water overtook her kitchen and dining room.

Poeme owner Kristen Folzenlogen, whose stationery store on Michigan Avenue sustained basement flooding, told WCPO after the July 17 storm: "It's a continual problem. Our sewage systems can't handle this type of density in such a short period of time …"

Dovetale Bakery, which had opened in April, also closed after the July 17 storm. The HPNC posted an emergency call for paper towels and cleaning supplies, setting up a drop-off point at Poeme.

Cincinnati Councilwoman Meeka D. Owens visited flood-damaged Hyde Park businesses on July 20 and urged residents on X to support Patty's Popcorn, Poeme and Neko Sushi.
