Asiana Thai & Sushi will reopen at its Oakley location under Jay and Toey Holmes, the husband-and-wife team who created the restaurant's original recipes.

Building owner Tedd Byer signed a new lease with the Holmeses after the previous tenant's lease was not renewed, causing the restaurant to temporarily close, the Cincinnati Enquirer first reported. Byer said he sought out the couple because of their reputation among Hyde Park and Oakley diners.

"They were the ones who created all the original recipes. They're the ones who won all the awards and best of Cincinnati ratings," Byer told the Enquirer. "It's 'Back to the Future.' That's the only way I can put it."

The restaurant has operated under various owners since 2006. The Holmeses purchased it in September 2017 and ran it for five years before opening a second Asiana location in Crestview Hills, Kentucky, in 2022. At that point they turned management of the Oakley restaurant and its lease over to friend Greg Lewis.

The couple's connection to the Oakley space runs deeper than business. Toey Holmes was waitressing there in 2014 when she met Jay. He proposed at the restaurant in 2016.

Jay and Toey told the Enquirer they were on vacation when Byer called about returning. They quickly accepted.

"We're so excited," Toey Holmes told the Enquirer. "All my customers, we have long-time customers, they have called and messaged, 'What's going on?'"

The Holmeses have been preparing the space since re-acquiring it. Their Crestview Hills location at 2886 Town Center Blvd. remains open during the transition, serving lunch Monday through Friday and lunch and dinner on Saturdays.

The Oakley grand reopening is set for Oct. 1.
