Road repairs along Ridge Avenue in Oakley and Pleasant Ridge are expected to begin in 2027, following water-main replacement already underway as part of Cincinnati’s rehabilitation project.
The plan calls for replacing aging water mains along the corridor, then resurfacing the road. On top of that, DOTE will add marked crosswalks and traffic calming features at select intersections, close a sidewalk gap south of the railroad crossing, update pavement markings and signage, and install a center turn lane in portions of the corridor. The center turn lane is aimed at reducing rear-end and sideswipe crashes.
The road work will also smooth the railroad crossing approach, improving the roadway profile and reducing vehicle impacts, according to the DOTE project page.
Water main replacement in Oakley is already underway and will continue into Pleasant Ridge through the end of 2026. Road repair work is expected to begin in Oakley at the start of 2027 and in Pleasant Ridge in spring 2027. Construction will continue through the remainder of 2027.
Drivers should expect lane closures as work progresses, though access will be maintained.
The stretch has a documented safety problem. DOTE data shows 89 crashes occurred on Ridge Avenue between Acomb Avenue and the community center from 2019 to 2023.
The project is funded through Cincy on Track resources and state and county grants, according to the DOTE project page. No total project cost appears in available city records.
Elise Kaplan, a seven-year Pleasant Ridge resident, told WCPO that repeated pothole fills have not solved the problem.
"It's putting a band-aid on it," Kaplan said.
Kaplan said the deteriorating road is a safety concern, not just a comfort issue. She called the city's plan encouraging.
