Registration opened August 3, for Cincinnati's 117th Thanksgiving Day Race, giving families more than three months to lock in spots for one of the city's oldest holiday running traditions.

The race is set for Thursday, November 26, at TQL Stadium, 1501 Central Parkway. Runners can choose between the Western & Southern 10K and the Chick-fil-A 5K, both starting at 9 a.m., or sign up kids for the ProAmpac Kids Fun Run, a quarter-mile dash that begins at 8:30 a.m. Registration is available at thanksgivingdayrace.com.

The 10K and 5K start together at TQL Stadium, follow separate courses through downtown, and reunite for the finish back on the stadium field. Kids in the Fun Run start at the same line as the adult races and receive medals at the finish.

The event, organized in partnership with FC Cincinnati, has drawn more than 11,000 participants in recent years, according to WLWT. It peaked at 17,567 runners during the 100th anniversary edition in 2009.

What to know before race day

Packet pickup runs Wednesday, November 25, and Thursday, November 26, at TQL Stadium. Parking is free in the East Garage during pickup. Running retailer Fleet Feet will be on-site November 25 with gear.

On race day, several downtown garages offer a $5 flat rate: Washington Park, Mercer Commons, Kroger, Town Center, Findlay Market, and TQL Stadium's East and West End garages.

A post-race party on the TQL Stadium pitch follows the finish, with food and drink from sponsors.

The race also offers a donation option at registration to benefit Cincinnati-area charities.
