Jonathan Pearson, a Republican, is running for Hamilton County Commission in the Nov. 3, 2026, general election against Democrat Meeka D. Owens.

Pearson ran for the same seat in 2024. He lost to Commissioner Alicia Reece, according to Cincinnati CityBeat. He is certified for the 2026 ballot.

The countywide commission seat carries authority over decisions that affect residents in Hyde Park, Oakley, Mount Lookout and across Hamilton County.

The policy responses below are drawn from Pearson's answers to candidate questionnaires published by WVXU and WLWT during the 2024 campaign. No 2026-cycle questionnaire responses were available. Positions are the candidate's own statements.

Candidate information

  • Party: Republican
  • Business: Owner, Pearson's Home/Turf, a turf and landscaping business in Fairfax, since 1992
  • Self-description: Pearson has called himself "a pro-life Catholic conservative," telling WLWT: "… I've had a lot of people say, Oh, you know, just leave that out of it. It's like, but that's who I am."

Experience and public service

Pearson said he has owned Pearson's Home/Turf, also known as Pearson's Turf & Landscaping, since 1992. He said he previously worked as a golf course maintenance worker and as a property manager and site foreman for a 175-acre subdivision in Indian Hill.

Pearson said he also does street ministry. "… It's very interesting to meet people on the street at a whole different level," he told WLWT.

On the issues

Taxes and budget: Pearson said taxes and rent costs are the top concerns he hears from Hamilton County residents. He said he would maintain a well-studied budget, honor tax rollbacks, cut unnecessary budget items and keep the public informed through transparent reporting.

Tax levies: Pearson said Hamilton County residents pay too much in taxes. He outlined a five-part test for evaluating levies: Does the recipient actually need the money? Does it add quality value to the county? Does it come at a modest cost? Is it redundant to other taxes? Is it the right time to consider new taxes?

Sewer system upgrade: Pearson said his approach to the county's multi-billion-dollar sewer system upgrade would start with keeping management on task. He said he would confirm all projects are necessary, confirm they are on or below cost and on time, and keep the public regularly informed.

Bengals stadium lease: Pearson said taxpayers "started in the hole" on the stadium deal and he would like to see the Brown family have "more skin in the game" on the lease. He said regular contact and transparency are key to any tenant relationship.
