Customers at MadTree Brewing's Oakley taproom have helped the brewery pass $20,000 in donations to environmental nonprofits through its Tree Fund program.

More than 15,000 guests at the taproom on Madison Road and at MadTree Parks and Rec in Blue Ash contributed to the milestone simply by buying food or drinks, WKRC reported Sept. 7. The Tree Fund donations go to environmental nonprofits, though the specific recipient organizations have not been named publicly.

The $20,000 is separate from MadTree's broader 1% for the Planet commitment, under which the brewery donates 1% of all sales to local environmental groups focused on trees, flowers and public green spaces. That adds up. MadTree plants and donates more than 5,000 trees locally each year, according to the brewery's website.

The brewery's environmental work extends well beyond the taproom register. MadTree sponsored Cincinnati Parks' Fall ReLeaf program for six consecutive years as of 2025, according to Cincinnati Parks. Its Let's Grow Local initiative, run with the Cincinnati Parks Foundation and Groundwork Ohio River Valley, has planted 881 trees over seven years in neighborhoods including Clifton, West End, Avondale, Bond Hill, Lower Price Hill and Mt. Auburn, according to the Cincinnati Parks Foundation. Twenty of Cincinnati's 52 neighborhoods have less than 40% tree canopy coverage.

Rhiannon Hoeweler, who became MadTree's first CEO in April, described the brewery's environmental mission at a November 2025 tree-planting event when she was the brewery's vice president of experience and impact. "We started with a simple goal: to give back to the community in a hands-on way," Hoeweler said at the time. "Now it's become a movement that unites businesses, nonprofits and residents around a common purpose: growing a healthier and more connected Cincinnati."

MadTree is Ohio's only B Corp-certified brewery, according to a November 2025 Movers & Makers report. The Oakley taproom at 3301 Madison Road also runs on 100% wind and solar power and requires full-time employees to complete 16 hours of paid volunteer time each year.

The next Let's Grow Local tree-planting event is scheduled for Oct. 27 in Madisonville.
