More than $10 million in unclaimed money is sitting in state accounts tied to Hyde Park, Oakley and Mount Lookout addresses, according to data the Ohio Division of Unclaimed Funds published Sept. 2.

The state's official ZIP code spreadsheet shows $6.46 million tied to ZIP code 45208, which covers Hyde Park and Mount Lookout. Oakley's 45209 holds another $3.96 million. A third nearby ZIP code, 45226, which includes parts of Mount Lookout and Columbia-Tusculum, adds $1.88 million.

The figures are part of $5.4 billion the state is holding statewide. Southwest Ohio alone accounts for nearly $645 million of that total, the Cincinnati Enquirer reported.

For statewide context, downtown Cincinnati's 45202 ranks third in Ohio with $22.9 million. Findlay's 45840 leads the state at $24.8 million, followed by Columbus's 43215 at $23.9 million, according to Spectrum News 1.

The data release comes during a statewide campaign led by Lt. Gov. Jim Tressel that launched in July 2026. The campaign targets older adults in particular and urges all Ohioans to search for money that may belong to them.

"It only takes a few minutes to check if there is money that belongs to you or your family," Tressel said, according to WLWT. "I encourage every Ohioan to visit the website, do a quick search, and make sure they aren't leaving behind something that's theirs."

The push appears to be working.

Claims submitted to the division jumped roughly 50% in fiscal year 2026, which ended June 30, compared with fiscal year 2025. The division paid more than 184,000 claims in fiscal year 2026. It returned $190 million, up from $149.9 million the year before.

"We don't want anyone to leave money behind," Division Superintendent Akil Hardy said in a statement released Sept. 12. "We're committed to returning more money to Ohioans as quickly as possible by investing in technology that makes the claims process faster and easier."

The division has dropped its W-9 tax form requirement and eliminated the need for notarized claim forms. It also added nearly two dozen staff members to process claims, according to Hometown Stations.

Residents can search for unclaimed funds and file a claim at unclaimedfunds.ohio.gov. Because of the surge in filings, the division asks claimants to allow up to 120 days for review. Questions can be directed to the division's customer support line at 614-466-4433.
