Kelsey Mitchell, the Cincinnati native who led Princeton High School to a Division I state championship in 2014, will start in her fourth consecutive WNBA All-Star Game on July 25, at the United Center in Chicago.
The 30-year-old Indiana Fever guard is putting together the best scoring season of her career, averaging 23.3 points per game while shooting 49.5% from the field and 42.3% from three-point range. She enters the All-Star break as Indiana's all-time leading scorer, with 11 games of 20-plus points in 2026 alone.
Mitchell's recent stretch has been scorching. Over her last 10 games, she averaged 27.3 points per game on 51.7% shooting and 50.0% from deep, the best mark in the WNBA during that span, per Sporting News. On Saturday, July 18, she dropped a season-high 33 points on 10-of-14 shooting as the Fever beat the New York Liberty 108-88, one night after scoring 30 in a win over the Seattle Storm. Those were the first back-to-back 30-point games of her career, according to ESPN.
At the All-Star Game, Mitchell will suit up for Team Coop, captained by Dallas Wings guard Paige Bueckers. Fever teammates Caitlin Clark and Aliyah Boston will play for Team Spoon. The rosters were drafted by WNBA legends Cynthia Cooper and Teresa Weatherspoon as part of the league's 30th anniversary celebration, according to USA Today. Tipoff is 8:30 p.m. ET on ABC and Disney+.
Mitchell received 665,377 fan votes, ninth overall, to earn her starting spot.
Cincinnati roots
Mitchell grew up in the Cincinnati suburbs and spent so much time at the Woodlawn Recreational Center that the Village of Woodlawn named a court "Kelsey Mitchell Court" in 2019. At Princeton High School in Sharonville, she averaged 26.1 points, 4.4 assists, 4.0 rebounds and 3.9 steals as a senior, earning the Gatorade Ohio Girls Basketball Player of the Year award and a No. 1 national ranking among point guards from ESPN.
Her senior-year state title was Princeton's first since 1987.
Princeton coach Jill Phillips said in Mitchell's 2014 Gatorade Player of the Year profile that Mitchell was "the most talented basketball player whom I have ever coached or seen play basketball at the high school level."
Mitchell went on to become a three-time Big Ten Player of the Year at Ohio State, finishing as the NCAA's second all-time leading scorer with 3,402 career points. The Fever selected her with the second overall pick in the 2018 WNBA Draft. In March 2026, she signed a $1.4 million supermax contract with Indiana, the first awarded under the WNBA's 2026 collective bargaining agreement, according to ESPN's Chiney Ogwumike.
She is the second Princeton High School alum to reach the WNBA, following Dee Davis, who played for Houston in 2007 and is the current Princeton head coach.
